In addition to being the largest company in the world by market capitalization, Apple (AAPL) is also unofficially — though undoubtedly — the world’s most talked about stock. Earnings releases dominate the financial headlines, while product events are live-blogged by just about every major media outlet. Perhaps the attention results partially from goodwill of early investors whose financial lives have been enriched significantly by AAPL’s rapid appreciation. Or perhaps the ubiquity of the company’s products makes investors of all types feel like experts capable of beating professional analysts at their own game.
Whatever the reason, there is clearly no shortage of analysis and speculation on Apple’s products and profits. Below are 13 forums, news aggregators, blogs, and analysts who can provide investors interested in Apple with all the information on the company they could ever need. The list is presented in alphabetical order.
AAPL Stock Forums
Although the heyday of Web forums has long since passed, there are still several useful applications of this format for exchanging information and news. Below are three sites online where investors and traders share thoughts on AAPL stock throughout the day.
Investors Hub Apple Forum
The topics of discussion on this Apple forum include both general company news and observations and more timely notes from individuals trading AAPL stock throughout the course of the day.
StockTwits AAPL Feed
StockTwits is an excellent resource for gauging sentiment on any stock, and the Apple feed is particularly active. There are literally thousands of posts on this thread throughout the day, with most of them coming from active traders moving in and out of AAPL (and related options) throughout the course of the day.
Silicon Investor Apple Forum
Silicon Investor’s Apple board is very active, with posts covering a wide range of topics. In addition to analysis of the company’s stock, this site features a collection of relevant news and speculation on various Apple products and services.
Apple News Aggregators
There are a handful of sites that collect company news and analysis from around the Web, presenting a central hub for those looking to read up on all things Apple:
Apple Investor News
Apple Investor News splits Apple-related articles into three distinct categories: news, rumors and blogs, and analyst write-ups. Each feed is updated regularly, and generally includes several dozen articles throughout the day.
This site features similar collections for a handful of other tech companies, including Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and Intel.
Hot Apple News
Hot Apple News also includes a mix of news and rumors on Apple, pulling articles from other Apple-focused sites as well as more general publishers. This site also allows visitors to filter by subject, showing targeted news about various products, people, and technologies.
Apple Product News and Analysis
9to5Mac
This site is one of the leading providers of “Apple Intelligence,” offering reviews of various Apple products and accessories as well as news on major developments related to the company.
Though the focus of this site is product reviews intended for consumers, it can be an excellent resource for investors as well. The impartial analysis of various Apple products offers insights into the product quality and assessment by power users — which can often be indicative of an item’s long-term retail success.
AppleInsider
AppleInsider publishes on a wide range of topics, often highlighting regulatory developments that may impact Apple (such as broadband subsidies) and bizarre stories involving Apple products (such as a driver fined for using an Apple Watch). The site also publishes editorials, general Apple news, and even offers deals on Apple products occasionally.
Cult of Mac
Cult of Mac was founded by Leander Kahney, the author of several Apple-related bestselling books. The site covers and follows “everything Apple,” including product reviews, news and rumors on Apple product development and introductions, and analysis of company strategy.
Cult of Mac also produces a “CultCast” podcast that is released every Thursday.
MacCast
Described as “for Mac geeks by Mac geeks,” the MacCast is a weekly podcast dedicated to discussing all things Apple. This weekly show covers a wide range of topics, including discussion on sales figures, rumors of new products, and other miscellaneous news.
New episodes are released each week, and typically run between 90 and 120 minutes. The podcasts can be streamed from the MacCast site and are also (of course) available on iTunes.
MacRumors
MacRumors is the go-to source for all the product development initiatives and research projects going on at Apple. This site closely watches potential products from the early states — such as Dodge Caravans equipped with mapping devices — as well as roundups with the latest on active products. These types of reports can have obvious value to investors, as they shed a bit of light on what may become revenue-generating products or services down the road.
This site also features blogs dedicated to Mac products and iOS developments, as well as a number of “Buyer’s Guides” to help consumers evaluate Apple products.
Patently Apple
Patently Apple is devoted exclusively to news and analysis of Apple’s intellectual property. Each week the site publishes updates on patents granted to Apple and applications made by the company, as well as ongoing coverage of any legal issues that inevitably arise from the IP.
The coverage of Apple’s patent activities is extremely well-researched and thorough. It’s also written in an easy-to-follow manner that allows the technically unsophisticated to appreciate the potential significance of some of the technology being developed. Spend a few minutes perusing the latest news on the Patently Apple blog and you’ll be thoroughly impressed at the technology that is coming down the pipeline.
Apple Stock Analysis
While all of the sites highlighted above touch occasionally on Apple’s stock price, there are also a couple of sites focused more specifically on developments with and trades of AAPL shares:
AAPL Tree
AAPL Tree is described by its author as an “AAPL stock enthusiast blog without pretense or claim of expertise.” Despite that tagline, this blog offers in-depth and compelling reviews of Apple’s financial results and previews of upcoming earning reports. This site is a great read every earnings season, highlighting noteworthy elements in results that most analysts overlook, and often making prescient observations.
You can also follow AAPL Tree on Twitter for updates and links throughout the day.
GuruFocus Apple Stats
GuruFocus highlights the positions that professional money managers are taking in Apple, focusing on a select group of “gurus” who have reputations as winning stock pickers. The data presented on this site is culled from quarterly SEC filings, where managers report additions or deletions to their Apple positions.
Though the data here is delayed, and there are often reports of both buys and sells, the sentiment toward AAPL stock among the pros can be an important piece of the puzzle.
